Garage to ADU Conversions

Utilizing existing walls and roof structure is a great way to save some money. Garage foundations are slanted for proper drainage. Floor framing, some concrete modification or a complete repour will be necessary in most projects. Enjoy some photos from a Garage to Additional Dwelling Unit we recently completed.

After removing the insufficient slab
Underground Plumbing

went down on a layer of compacted sand.

Next we put form boards in place for
Foundation Concrete
This garage was originally built in 1920 and required
Structural Framing
to both square the building and bring it up to code.
Due to the age of the building we had to special order

Being close to Cal Poly the owners already knew they wanted to build this San Luis Obispo Additional Dwelling Unit to accommodate two students. Onsite laundry and all the kitchen amenities are very important to renters so we found space for all of it. We built an extra large island to serve as an eating area but also to provide ample study space.

To save space in the kitchen we used
Apartment Sized Appliances
Although small we maximized storage and efficiency with
Custom Built Cabinetry
with pan drawers and built in microwave in the island.
Because the original building did not have a standard height sill plate
Open Shelving
provided more storage where standard closet doors would not fit.
A 7' top plate left no room for a wall-mounted shower so a
Rain Shower Head
provided a stylish solution.
